Asthma-Friendly Schools

Because so many California students have asthma, it’s important for schools to provide an environment where they can thrive. The Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative is a powerful public health project that has the potential to improve life for thousands of California students with asthma. It brings together school personnel, asthma coalitions, parents, health educators and other community groups to address the needs of children who live with the chronic lung disease.

From access to medical care to indoor air quality, the Asthma-Friendly Schools Initiative Toolkit helps schools build an environment where children with asthma are healthy, in school and ready to learn. It is a planning tool that provides the framework for assessing schools’ current asthma policies and needs and addressing issues that affect students with asthma.
