Pulmonary Nurse Scholarship

The American Lung Association of California Research Program offers Pulmonary Nurse Scholarships for advanced practice nursing with a focus on pulmonary care. Scholarships are offered to graduate students enrolled in a master’s degree program at a California university.

The following topic areas should be included in the course of study in the master's degree program at the university the applicant attends.

  • Research methods
  • Research critique
  • Pulmonary physiology and pathophysiology
  • Clinical management of acute and chronic pulmonary disease
  • Cardiopulmonary pharmacology
  • Ethical Issues in nursing practice
  • Selected clinical practicums, for example:
    • chest x-ray interpretation
    • physical assessment
    • pulmonary function testing
    • pulmonary rehabilitation programs
    • ventilator and airway management modalities
  • Clinical residency

Students selected to receive a scholarship should confer with their assigned faculty advisor to assure compliance with these guidelines. Course titles will vary among institutions and content may be integrated in several courses. Students
must also meet institutional requirements for the award of the master's degree.

Applications are due no later than January 23, 2009. The application is available in either PDF or MS Word.
